The SCMA is a proud sponsor of the “Greenovation of Terra Verde,” a project that is transforming a 1970’s Florida style ranch home that sits on 23 beautiful acres adjacent to the Ocala National Forest into a model of energy efficiency.
Cypress will be one of the sustainable products featured in the project. When finished, Terra Verde’s front and rear gables will be clad in cypress, a species well known for its durability and natural resistant to rot and decay. “The cypress entranceway gives the project its ‘wow’ factor,” according to Dr. Anna Marie, health specialist for The Weather Channel and host of the syndicated better living show Your Life.
From the original single-pane, metal-framed windows to the heating oil tank buried in the front yard, this energy-inefficient home has been untouched since the first cinder block was laid almost forty years ago. Dr. Anna Marie is leading the green renovation project to transform this 3,000-square-foot home into an eco-friendly, energy-efficient and ultimately healthy home!
“The goal of this renovation is to educate homeowners that you don’t have to build a brand new home in order for it to be green,” said Dr. Anna Marie. “From updating the bathroom and kitchen to new paint and updated fixtures and even to the landscaping, we are going to show how and why it should be done.” Terra Verde will demonstrate to the public the technologies and products that are readily available and affordable to remodel an existing home.
The home will be showcased at the Lake County Florida Builder Association’s Parade of Homes in March 2010. The event will bring together 12,000 viewers.
